Winters eve fest in Lincoln square

Art Journaling

I was told I needed to have a winter activity by a customer at my job. They said that is the only way you will survive winter here. I said well I hula hoop and the guy said that didn't count, I said ok how about ART journaling and he said that could work... well, it does. I know it is barely even what one could consider Winter. However, it is dark so early and some days are cold and rainy.... so I think the Winter feel is in the air. Luckily though, December will be fun regardless because of all the holiday festivities going on. But I am prepared and armed with a winter activity if I am kept indoors January....

The journal to the above is finished and I just purchased my second one below. Invest in a journal... it is such a great outlet and lots of fun tod and a great way to look back on memories.

The shelf in use ;)

Central Park & fun city finds

So... I went to Central Park on Sunday. It was around 65 degrees out... it wasn't as sunny as Saturday, but it was still a park kinda day. As you walk through the park there are tons of people walking around, playing games, running, bicycling and sitting on park benches. It is such a sight to see. The only time I really saw any of that in Florida was maybe at the beach, but event that's a stretch. The kids really play in the leaves and people actually throw frisbee and now being almost out of the touristy stage of a New Yorker... it's funny to see people pose on rocks for pics and what not. I get asked where things are all the time and that is when I realize I am still new. But it is fun and people just love to be outside when it is half-way decent. Anyways, so the 2 pics below are trees in the park... the 2nd one is also showing the buildings that were in the ghost busters movies. The last pic is the book shelf I scored on my walk home. It happened to be right outside my building... I love it and the universe gave it to me. I love this city...

Goals...

Lately, I have been on this kick about being in the right place, knowing what the next step is etc. and then I am looking through my notebook and I find this on the first page. Now as we all know and being a girl.... lose weight will generally always be on the list. However, that goal is more about hooping though... because if I am dedicated and hooping everyday like I should be then the rest will follow.

So, anyways, the point of this is that the second goal which is not always on my goal list, for the first year was, and it finally got accomplished. It's funny though that when one goal is accomplished we feel so little accomplishment. I am trying everyday to remind myself that I made a dream come true, which then was a goal and is now a reality. One of the few things in my life I have accomplished and I am barely giving myself credit because I should that much more ahead. But for now I am appreciating the fact that this goal is accomplished. Now for 2012......

Hoop day at the JCC

Party Hoopers first event in NYC! Hope it won't be the last. It was with the Jewish Community Center and it was with kids and adults. It was a lot of fun and there was plenty of space. The kids loved it and even the adults joined in and played. The room was located on the 7th Floor and had a gorgeous view! More pics to come.... The day was perfect out and so it was sunny and spacious... ya, I am kinda obsessed with space right now!!! I was very happy it was a success.

Just so beautiful

World Hoop Day 11/11/11

These are some great peeps! I am so thankful and lucky to have fellow hoopers here with me in NYC. The niche of people here are older and younger... but we all have a love for the hoop. Today happened to be WHD (World hoop day), which does exist! Everyone got together and hooped in Washington square park, we had donations for both veterans and kids in need, and people also made hoops to give away. It was a lot of fun and people really enjoyed it. Taking pictures, videos and even playing with the hoops. We were out there for about 3 hours in like 40 degree weather.... so we are hard core or hoop core lol... Anyways, it is great to have this community here. So much love and gratitude.

So duh!! It snowed the Saturday of Halloween....

What better way to be welcomed to New York than with snow over Halloween weekend! It is a good indicator of the weather I will incur over the course of living here. Lets remember I moved here when it was Beautiful. About 75 degrees everyday! On top of it, it was the last Summer month so everyone was living it up.... now things are starting to change a bit. Winter def takes a toll on you. It gets dark at 4:30 and if it's raining forget about it... you just want to stay inside. Of course, you still get out... it just is different.

Halloween and the parade

Halloween in the city was something I was excited about, but I am actually looking forward to next year a little more just because now I know what to expect and because it was freezing this year and I got to the parade a little late... which meant tons and tons of people.... which you can see in the pic below. The parade is in the West Village and it goes along a bunch of streets, not sure how many, but enough to fit a gazillion people ha ha. The thing I love about New Yorkers, they are always down to have fun and when the weather is nice, they appreciate it so much!

My first hoop sold in NYC!!

The first person to purchase a hoop from me met me in the Subway!! So cool ;)

L1 & L2..... me and my bff always together ha ha

A visit with old friends!

So... luckily living in NYC, a lot of people visit here.. which is great. Considering my last post about missing home and friends and what was comfortable, it was pretty cool to get to catch up with some friends from High school. The girl in the middle is Katie Burke, she and I were president and vice president of the class of 2004 for 2 years, our slogan was "Hunnewell and Burke will make it work".... how cute is that? (Lauren made that up) And the girl to the right of her is Veronica, she was president of Student Government. These girls are amazing and they are smart and so sweet! I was blessed to be able to spend not only time with them reminiscing but also being around their great spirits... definitely motivating!!
After I returned from Florida...... I got a little homesick. I got homesick for many reasons. I no longer lived in a place with year-round warmth, I was not 5 minutes from the beach or nearby my best friend of 14 years and I just missed the normality of what "comfortability" felt like. I was experiencing the change of homes, of friends and of life. Of course within a few days I was fine and accepting. But I tell you moving makes you a stronger person. You really realize who matters in life and who you can count on and straight-up who does not. I am learning to live a life with good people, the old and the new, with much less drama and learning who I am. I am 25 and I realize I should probably have already graduated school, be in a career and moving towards family life. However, I think I am the furthest away from it all in a really long time.... is this a bad thing or this a good thing? Learning to re-create who we once were to become something different and better.... I guess that all takes time.

A "Surprise" visit to Florida ;)

Florida was amazing!! I really enjoyed my visit. I was so thankful that not only my visit to surprise Lauren for her 26th birthday worked out, but that I also made it on time and with no delays!! Last time I flew that was not the case. So my visit included seeing many great friends, going to the beach (below), which was beautiful, going to the kava bar, the casino (ching, ching$$) and just being able to enjoy the roots I came from. I really, really appreciated being able to go home again! I missed my bff more than you can even imagine and drinking kava also... which was something I have done on a daily basis for the last 7 years. So I was glad I got to do it all and since I won't be visiting till prob Feb, when I am dying for some warmth... and need a trip back. So, I am thankful to have had a fun and adventurous trip... it's what I would call an "Epic" trip!

Kat comes to hoop with me and we end up at a speakeasy ;0

Making Hoops in a New York City Apartment....
(I certainly have a new word I use for Florida: Appreciation!!! Such a good thing to learn!)

Next in order of events.... DEADMAU5.... my first NYC concert!!! I went and saw him on a Tuesday with JamieLynn. it was a great time and a lot of fun. I am glad I went on a Tuesday because it wasn't too crowded like a Friday or a Saturday. So, I was able to get to know the venue. It was at the Roseland Ballroom... close to wear I live in the Upper West side.
So, it has been a while since I last updated my blog.... I guess I have just been busy. So, I am going to try and stay in chronological order of the things that have happened last month.

So, every first Sunday of the month we have a hoop meditation jam at the Brooklyn Lyceum, which is literally one of the coolest buildings I've ever been in and the upstairs where we generally have the jam is such an awesome space with great energy. The Lyceum is actually an old bath house, not sure how old, but I am sure old enough.
The jam is a quiet one, so it allows you to really work on your practice.... In Florida I did not have a place like this to go and hoop, so it is just so awesome to have this within a trains distance away. The funny part is... is that In Florida, I had more space than a New Yorker would know what to do with and I feel like I didn't take advantage of it nearly enough! (Yes, I should have hooped more).... But the other reason why it is so great to have this space is because it gets cold and you can not hoop outside.
